Its finally time to retire the ol rear mount turbo set up. I built this car years ago, with countless remarks of "that car will never be fast" "Rear mounts don't work" "Youre wasting your time" amongst other things. I knew the potential it had, and that it could be fast....if done properly. So I set out to prove it. I looked at a lot of the rear mount designs, and although they have something that "works" I knew I could do it alittle bit better on my own. I changed a few things, intercooler, turbo tube routing for the intercoolers, oil feed return change amongst a few other little things. The car started as a 6speed 9lb "little street car that could" That changed quickly. Slapped a turbo400 behind it, put a bigger turbo on it, pulled the motor, did some rods/pistons. Even with all this. The car still had a TON of stock OEM parts on it. Stock manifolds, LS6 intake, Stock casting heads, water pump, pulleys, radiator, interior(down to the working AC), no roll cage, EXHAUST! Yes even the "crushed" OEM y pipe was on the car. Even thought the car was looked down on at first, it came out swinging. I never let what somebody else said to me, push me from proving this thing can work! I was at the track every week, pushing the limits, what would break, what would be my "issues". I learned a lot..but the car never let me down..it cracked into the low 9.xx digits. The car by that time was known. I would meet random people walking out on woodward on weekends and hear them say as they walk by "that's that rear mount car". It wasn't me spreading the word..it was other people spreading the word. The car made it on the cover of Pontiac enthusists in 2011. With a 4 page car feature inside. That still to this day blows my mind. Never thought it would happen. A black, REAR mount turbo on the COVER of a magazine? Couldn't be! I met a lot of people just by word spreading of the car..and if any of you have ever met me, im not the arrogant type. I tried to explain, answer questions anyone had. Even met a few other rear mount guys and would try to inspire them that hey..these things can work!
Ive finally decided that its time to switch it up. The car needs a new trend to it. So ive started to tear apart the old set up. Turbos off, motors out, trans is out ect. I'll try to keep the pictures coming!
Operation 3.0 starts
Shes hooked. We pull from the top!
Old turbo on the floor at rest from its "rear" position for years.
Some of the turbo tubing, custom brackets, mounts ect.
The procharger (yep blower) Intercooler set up made to work with the turbo setup.
We also removed the old tubular k member to swap in the "turbo" kmember. Which ran with STOCK lower and upper control arms. Eibach coilovers.
The new front set up. BMR tubular "turbo" kmember, BMR adjustable lower and upper control arms. QA1 Coilovers. Front drag brakes have been ordered and are on the way.
Current status. Ripped and torn apart. New parts added. Sitting waiting for the next stages.
