Ask Sweden how “Herd Immunity” worked out for them. Population of 10 million.... 13,000 deaths. Meanwhile, Denmark, Norway, and Finland with a combined population of 16 million, all locked down... and have around 4,500 deaths combined.
So it’s clear, those three countries combined have a population 50% higher than Sweden and yet ended up with 1/3 of the deaths. But, you know, there’s no science or numbers in that... right?
This is a fantastic model study as travel was restricted and you didn’t get issues with people crossing state lines like here in the US to cross-contaminate the citizens.

Mike, similar populations between Michigan and Sweden. Michigan sitting at 16,500 deaths, Sweden at 13,000 with no lockdown. Seems like Sweden did better than Michigan with no lockdown.
Why aren't we locked down right now? Tons of people dying, cases spiking? Why not lock us down again if it works so well?

The herd immunity is effective. When I was a kid, chicken pox, measels and mumps were a reality, until they created an effective vaccine. When someone in your family, or a friends family got one of those diseases, everyone in the family got them and it was Okay, if one of your friends came over and got it. Once you got it you would then become immune to future attacks.
While no one really knew if herd immunity would be effective against Covid, some wanted to try to see if it would work. Once Trump literally uttered the words 'Herd Immunity' it was totally banned. No one was allowed to bring it up because it was called Junk Science. So, the country wasn't even allowed to try until 9 months after some saw the lockdowns weren't really working.
You can say what you want, but places like Florida, which is more like Michigan than the Netherlands is, has a much better track record than Michigan. That is even though there are more seniors living in Florida than Michigan. Both Florida and Georgia relaxed their mask and lockdown mandates several months ago. If you remember, the Left was saying it would be a death sentence to all living there. This has been proven wrong, of course.
Lets not forget the Democrats and the left are continuing to allow the unvaccinated and diseased illegals to enter our country. Once they are here, they are being bussed to states who are allowing them in, like Michigan is. Diseases which were totally eliminated within the US, like the black plague and polio, are making a comeback in a big way. in places like California. This is due to the unvaccinated illegals.
So, while states without the restrictive rules of Michigan, California and New York continue to do better, and because the lock down rules work so well, they are extending them for another SIX months. But, Whitmer has again agreed to take on illegals who have crossed the border without paperwork. These people are free to roam the state, while people who need to work for a living are restricted.

While Michigan is taking these un-vaccinated illegals, at least some states like Iowa is refusing to take them...

Short answer: Detroit Tax Revenue.......a major problem caused by the lockdown was detroit suffered a major shortage of tax money from suburbanites who normally worked in office buildings downtown. City of detroit couldn't tax them if they weren't working within city limits
To me, it's a good idea to always carry two sacks of something when you walk around. That way, if anybody says, "Hey, can you give me a hand?" You can say, "Sorry, got these sacks."
